Description

Jeremiah was chosen as a prophet when he was still in his mother’s womb. His was a difficult task. G-d made it clear to Jeremiah that he sees the truth and must share and prophesy to the people: prophesying to those who did not wish to hear. But G-d’s words would come to fruition.

As the verses express, Jeremiah saw the branch of an almond tree- he saw it bare, with no blooms on it. The scholarly commentator, Rashi, explains that almond blossoms take only twenty one days to grow into mature almonds. This symbolizes the fact that the prophecy G-d shared with Jeremiah would come to fruition quickly: the destruction of the Temple, if His word is not heeded, but also its rebuilding in the future

Ellen Miller Braun has created this almond branch in bloom. It represents the continuation of G-d’s promise and prophecy: The day will come when the Jewish Nation, Am Yisrael, will bloom. We shall return from all four corners of the earth to rebuild the Temple and the ruined cities.

May we enjoy the beauty of the blooming almond tree as well as the blooming of G-ds prophecies soon in our day .
