This exquisite flowing design was created for the wedding of Ellen’s daughter. The delicate, graceful flowers, along with the seven species (grape, fig, pomegranate, olive, date, wheat and barley), form the shape of a beautiful wedding canopy.Jerusalem rebuilt fills this wine goblet, as even during our happiest moments, we remember Jerusalem, placing the memory of her destruction above all. The “seven blessings,” recited for the Bride and Groom under the wedding canopy, are also inscribed here- the blessing over wine, symbolizing joy and celebration, being one of them. “And then, when you have eaten and are satisfied, bless G-d for the good land which He has given you.”Deuteronomy 8:10. This Biblical commandment is the basis for the four blessings that compose the Grace recited after eating bread. The first three are scripturally commanded, while the fourth was instituted by the sages.Birkat HaZan: The Blessing of Nourishment- written by Moses. The blessing of nourishment expresses of our conviction that G-d gives individual attention to every single soul- compassionately filling present and future needs.Birkat HaAretz: Blessing the Land- written by Joshua. Fulfilling the promise to our Forefathers, the Heritage of the Land of Israel is passed to Am Yisrael. We thank G-d for the fulfillment of His promise after our redemption from slavery to freedom. We remember the covenant of circumcision-“brit-milah,” preserved by Abraham and his descendents- an everlasting reminder that G-d is forever the One and Only G-d. This covenant- “brit” -is the basic condition for our possession of the Promised Land.Boneh Yerushalayim: Build Jerusalem- composed in stages by David and Solomon. This is a prayer for continued peace in The Land. Following the destruction of the Temple and heartbreaking exile, the blessing was modified to include a supplication to return to the Land, the Davidic line and the rebuilt Temple. HaTov V’haMaitiv: Who is Good and Does Good- composed by the court of Rabban Gamliel the Elder in Yavneh: We thank G-d for the past, but also express our thanks for the goodness that He extends to us on a constant daily basis.Grace after Meals concludes with: “G-d will give might to his people; G-d will bless His people with peace.” – “B’Shalom.” As the Tosfot Yom Tov taught: “G-d wishes to give might and strength to His people and what did He do? He blessed them with Peace, as all blessings in the world cannot be fulfilled if there is no peace.” (Uktzim 3:12). Amen
